LASTING TRANSITIONS

Transitions commence new adventures. Make 'em last…

Autumn’s Awakening

Ecclesiastes 3: 1 – “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”

The blight of autumn has sadly begun as winter’s frigid onslaught is on the verge of fully unveiling itself without restraint. The very few autumns I’ve experienced throughout my life have been very pleasant, but quite short or inconspicuous.  Californian autumns, especially those in beach-central southern California where I grew up, are very gradual and indistinct. Autumns in South Korea tend to last for only a few weeks, but are quite prominent and noticeable amid a prolonged brutal summer and harsh winter. It seems that one day all leaves are monochromed, then the next are transformed into a vibrant display of hues that cause one to earnestly question if they are dreaming or not. South Korean autumns are truly magical.

When autumn begins to rapidly fade away into the bone-chilling winter, one may easily miss out on what each autumn has to offer in regards to the awakening it provides. I find that autumn is a reminder of how life is temporary and how each day is a gift and not a promise. The sudden changing of colors and how each tree once vibrant with leaves and life, becomes bare awaiting the return of the shinning spring and the chance to grow back what was lost, reminds me of the accumulation of changes that occur in my life every day and year, and while I continue to grow older, stronger, and wiser, a limit will be reached someday. That ‘someday’ is not up to me, but God who sustains me and gives me each day to live and attempt to glorify Him by following, loving, believing, and having a relationship with His son, Jesus Christ, whom was sacrificed for all my wrongdoing. God will ultimately choose when my last autumn will be, and thus, autumn awakens me to remember that life is short and that everyday is an opportunity to love all those around me just as Jesus loves me, and to do what is right in the eyes of God and make a positive difference whenever possible.

Autumn skies also remind me of how beautiful heaven must be…
